New York Fashion Week news

New York Fashion Week day 1 and 2

The concrete jungle begun the show season with a bitter sweet take on the trends for A/W12-13. Nicholas K made a Goth meets Wild West statement with models appearing with pale faces and dark lips for the season to compliment their cow girl, grunge inspired looks.

The nine year old brands cool utilitarian signature was ever present throughout, as the trend focus for her collection showcased draped knits and layering attention to outerwear as her seasonal statement.

Edgy designer Richard Chai opted for luxe fashion making black the palette essential, and tie dye printed pieces of monochrome and oversized parachute jackets the collections key features. Richard’s inspiration hails from subway photographer Bruce Davidson, keeping the show theme minimalist and chic, the designer was straightforward about not having tricks up his sleeve and laying all his style cards on the New York runway.

Making a welcomed impression on the fash-pack Richard stayed true to his boy/girl approach and stole the show with his sartorial navy and charcoal striped tweed, contributing the ‘new look’ for “handsome femininity” to A/W12 trends.

Costello Tagliapietra and BCBG Max Azria returned with a softer approach to the season. With duo Costello and Tagliapietra nodding to shapely ready to wear pieces by twirling prints, draping dresses, subtle tucks and cinching at the waist, Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra brought out the sexy factor for wardrobe day wear.

There’s always a floating feeling of femininity in the range and though the evening wear wasn’t particularly the anchor of the collection it was a rich and overall luxury take that left the brands stamp on A/W 12.

Meanwhile BCBG’s colour blocking on forties style pleats made a refreshing change to the days show trends. Following through with last season’s ladylike dressing, with over the knee sweeping skirts and dresses, pleats, wide leg trousers and flaring; designers Max and Lubov Azria contrasted the line with sporty elements on belted trench coats to push the brands style boundaries.

Thus, creating more wardrobe options for the modern woman and making both collections in the running for next season’s daywear essentials.

Today Parkchoonmoo start the day’s events followed by Rebecca Taylor, Nicole Miller and Brandon Sun. With an expected celebrity turn out at the Mercedes Benz shows in star style this weekend, New York turn up the heat for a Fashion Week of show stoppers.
