MyHotel Chelsea: A hidden sanctuary amongst the hustle and bustle of the capital

Nestled into a velvet pillow on a rainy Monday morning, it was hard to believe I felt so relaxed staying in a hotel just a stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle of central London.

This hip boutique hotel - hidden in a quiet street between Chelsea and Kensington - could have been in the heart of the countryside because it felt so calming to stay in after a busy week at work.

Bedroom

The first thing I noticed about the hotel room was how tempting the bed looked. Struggling to fit in eight hours of sleep a night, I pictured myself sleeping in in the morning in the cosy-looking bed before glueing myself to the TV remote for the rest of the day.

It certainly didn't disappoint when it came to bedtime, as duck-down duvets, large fluffy pillows and cosy throws meant it was perfect for settling into after a long day.

I made my way over to the en-suite bathroom, taking in the sweet scent of the creamy Elemis beauty products on offer, before jumping in the shower to prepare myself for the day ahead.

I decided to skip the in-room spa treatments as I had a packed schedule, but for those that fancy the extra luxury, there are three different spa treatments to enjoy from the comfort of your own bed.

The pretty decoration, white wooden headboards and velvet pillows made my superior double bedroom feel decidedly chic and feminine - but I had a busy day planned so (reluctantly) left my room.

Location

The hotel is easy and quick to get back to after an afternoon spent exploring the South Kensington museum quarter.

It's perfectly placed and I could picture myself taking a romantic stroll to nearby Knightsbridge for some Christmas shopping at Harrods. But listening to my purse strings, I decided not to make this dream a reality.

After wandering around the West London locale, I couldn't resist popping back into the hotel for a quick lie down on that magnificent bed, only just managing not to sink into the cosy covers for too long.

Refreshed, I headed out and hit up the nearby King's Road for a spot of dinner. Famously appearing on Made in Chelsea, I didn’t manage to spot Proudlock, Binky or Spencer on my trip here but I still felt like I was part of the show.

Spending the day on the King's Road would make for a lovely Christmas shopping trip with girlfriends - with shops including MAC Cosmetics, Lush and Aveda offering festive gifts for loved ones.

Though there's of course plenty going on in town, I was keen to enjoy the relaxation the hotel offered and after a busy day and slap up dinner, headed back for a chilled out evening in my new-found sanctuary.

Food

Though I skipped dinner at the hotel for a hearty burger on the King’s Road, the hotel does offer a tapas-style restaurant if you don't fancy venturing out in the cold.

In the morning, a hearty, buffet breakfast in the country farmhouse style kitchen is available but there was no cooked food other than (albeit tasty) scrambled eggs on offer.

I had a mixture of Danish pastries - I couldn't decide between an almond croissant and cinnamon swirl so had both, obviously - teamed with a delicious natural yoghurt/granola pot and the aforementioned scrambled eggs.

For Made in Chelsea fans, it does feel like you’re living in the reality show when you’re wandering around the borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

The shots of the expensive cars driving around aren’t a lie – the roads surrounding my hotel had Porsches, Lamborghinis and Rolls Royces on every street corner.

But the hotel itself is more charming than pretentious - the smell of the freshly baked muffins when you walk into the foyer is just one example - despite being rooted in one of the wealthiest districts in London.

With easy access into central London – just 30 minutes on the tube - I’d recommend it for a relaxing, intimate weekend away with the option of travelling into the city if you need to. From my experience, though, you might not feel the need.
