Autumn/winter '12 is a season of two halves, on the one hand it's a serious affair with lots of severe black, the gothic trend (which is going to be huge, mark our words), and dramatic silhouettes, taking centre stage, and in the other there's vibrant colour, Pop Art prints, baroque paisley, polka dots, and a whole manner of spirit lifting motifs! And right now we (along with half of Hollywood) are obsessing over the latter.
First came the star motif, with likes of Alessandra Ambrosio, Miley Cyrus and Emma Roberts, all snapping up L.A. favourite Wildfox's slouchy star knit sweater- the perfect trans-seasonal buy. Then 3.1 Philip Lim's hotly anticipated Pop Art inspired collection hit the shops, which sees words like KA-POW, and BANG bamboozled across t-shirts, sweaters, and even accessories, and it doesn't stop there! The New York based designer's current collection also stars an iconic cartoon pin-up print, inspired by artist Roy Lichtenstein, called The Break Up which appears on both colourful sweaters and a line of accessories too. All of which have been selling like hot cakes over the past few weeks.
And 3.1 Philip Lim isn't alone! London based designer Markus Lupfer also created a Pop Art inspired collection, embellished with this trademark sequins. But it's not all about graphic '60s designs: polka dots are also having a moment, from Yayoi Kusama's dotty collection for Louis Vuitton, to Paige Denim's fabulous printed jeans (as seen on Gwen Stefani) and Kate Bosworth's enviable sundress, spots in all shapes and sizes are back in fashion favour (for more fabulous fashion spots check out page 32 of this week's Grazia magazine!).
