Milan Fashion Week opens

Milan Fashion Week day 1

As we move from London to Milan, we prepare ourselves for the glamour, allure and high quality Italian fashion.

Gucci kicked started Milan's fashion week with a the plum coloured carpet reminded us of the London Christopher Kane and Erdem shows, none of their light pieces was seen.

Gucci's creative director, Frida Giannini presented a dark and romantic collection featuring black skirts and shirts in chiffon and velvet that were lifted by inky shimmers of rich forest green, petrol blue and burgundy seen in feather detailing. Long billowing bejewelled dresses were the final pieces, with key-hole necklines and exposed backs.

Purple will most definitely be a key trend for the A/W12 as it appeared in London and now in Milan for Alberta Ferretti who punched her entire collection with just one colour, a rich purple.

Paired with black accessories the colour was not light or summery, but rich and perfectly in kept with the other lace, chiffon and feather pieces creating another dramatic, romantic collection from Ferretti. We're sure this range will be seen on many young stars in the coming months.

No21 presented us with a casual collection for the next winter season. Slouchy separates with sculptural outerwear provided a practical and minimalist line, whilst a contrasting palette starting from the darkest black and moving through nudes and ending in a rich turquoise created a versatile wardrobe of looks for A/W12.

Ending the first day of Milan shows Francesco Scognamiglio's collection exuded pure sexuality. He paired leather pencil skirts slit to the thigh with sheer chiffon blouses while flared pleated skirts gave an edge of Lolita sex appeal and the vibrant and entirely unique colour palette kept the collection fresh.

Metallic neons were sprinkled throughout the looks, with iridescent peacock greens and metallic peach as the real show stoppers. Oversized furs and patent leather mini dresses kept the collection young and strong. Scognamiglio’s produced an original show with trends that we will undoubtedly see more of as the week goes on.

The first day of Milan Fashion Week was short but certainly sweet, it gave us a glimpse of the trends that will be presented in the next few days and built a great sense of excitement for upcoming shows.
