Milan Fashion Week: Opulent sweetness and fanciful themes for day two

Starting day two of Milan Fashion Week was Max Mara with another season of ultra desirable structured outerwear. The brands usual use of military shapes was made new with the use of low slung belts and accents from a maritime theme (evident in the “Querelle” theme tune playing throughout the show).

Sailor stripes and nude shades broke through the overall dark palette, creating a brilliant winter capsule wardrobe.

Karl Lagerfeld brought us completely unapologetic luxury with the Fendi collection. Every animal under the sun could be found in their patchwork of pelts, whilst fusion between modern necessities and more traditional Roman details - knotted and plaited hair - created a complex and decadent collection.

Colour pops of deep blue and on trend maroon made the pieces perfectly fitting for our A/W12 wardrobes.  Romanticism and opulent sweetness took over the runway at Luisa Beccaria, with gold tweed dresses, velvet jackets and broderie anglaise dresses all belted with soft leather plaits.

Realism with a hint of a dreamer was the inspiration, with jewel embellishments and cashmere outerwear bringing a sense of decadence to the otherwise sugary sweet collection. Prada was the final act of the day, providing as always, a fusion between serious design and fanciful themes.

A dark palette, paired with dark eyes, dark dip dyed hair and dark shoes made for a show that perfectly emulated the winter season, whilst jewel embellishments on the cuffs, collars and wrists of the models gave that hedonistic edge we expect from a fashion house as powerful as Prada.

Bright orange and purple (the shade appears once more!) suits with turned up cuffs really amped up the humour in the collection, and whilst they were not the most wearable pieces in the collection, they were certainly the most distinctive.  Another day of major fashion players brings us unique trends and contrasts of girlishness and overt sexuality.

With Friday bringing us collections from Moschino and Versace, we're dying to get the next fashion injection from Milan Fashion Week.
