Would you pay £450 for a bowl of strawberries and cream? A bar in Manchester hopes so. Its chef has hit the record books for producing the world’s most expensive version of the popular summer dessert.
The special edition British treat is being served up at the swanky Circle 360 champagne bar in The Trafford Centre to celebrate the Wimbledon Championships 2012.
But how has it managed to elevate a bowl of strawbs to a £450 dessert? Well, the Jasper Conran crystal bowl they’re served in helps, worth £160 on its own, diners are allowed to keep the dish as a memento. The dessert itself features a vintage champagne mousse made from a bottle of Pommery Cuvee Louise 1999 that costs a staggering £750 per bottle.

At to that a scoop of mandarin ice cream, a brandy snap basket for texture and of course the main event - perfectly ripe strawberries handpicked locally.
“Strawberries and cream are the Wimbledon fans favourite sweet, so we thought it would be a great idea to introduce this exclusively to our menu,” said Norris Panton, the owner of Circle 360.
“It might be the world’s most expensive strawberries and cream, but it is definitely worth the money. It’s delicious!”
In the Y! Lifestyle office we’d rather use the money to buy VIP tickets to Wimbledon itself! But would you treat yourself?
