After years of brewing all natural, vegan ingredients and playing with pigments, Lush has finally announced the introduction of a colourful make up range to its handmade cosmetics. But it’s not just about the colours. The founders have taken make up to a new level, linking the shades you choose to elements in your psyche. Introducing Emotional Brilliance.
Sound a bit hippy? Well, that’s what we love Lush for. Y! Lifestyle headed over to a secret London club to take a look at the new range and use the power of our mind to influence what colours we should wear.
Introducing the colour wheel
One of these will be available in every shop from late July and you can give it a go online. Spin the wheel and when it stops, pick out the three colours that jump out of you most. They don’t have to be colours you would normally wear as make up or even your favourites.
Underneath each circle of colour is a little bottle of liquid lip colour, eyeliner or cream eyeshadow. And attached to each bottle, like a magical vial from Alice in Wonderland, is a little message. On each of the 30 products there’s a word. The word attached to the first colour you chose symbolises your strength or weakness. The second is your subconscious need and the third is your talent.
Whether you believe in it or not, there’s no doubt it’s an entertaining addition to make up and there’s something rather comforting about putting on an eye colour that represents, say, ‘calm’, when you’re feeling a little frazzled. The makeup isn’t designed to enhance any particular skin tone and there won’t be any make overs going on in store, so you have to trust your instincts when it comes to picking the shades.
The products all subscribe to Lush’s core values and are full of vibrant pigments. We love the bright eye liners best and the daily wear mascara that’s designed to be kind to sore eyes and condition lashes.
Emotional Brilliance will be available in stores from July 21.
Liquid Lips, Liquid Eyeliners and Cream Eyeshadow, all £14.50
