Pub challenge: Is this Britain's largest Christmas dinner?

Pub challenges diners to scoff an entire Christmas feast each - whole turkey and all

We've all heard that we'll be scoffing thousands of Christmas calories on the big day but one pub wants us to take our turkey dinner to a whole new level - challenging its patrons to eat an entire feast to themselves.

Diners are invited to tackle the 5,000 calorie meal which is quite possibly Britain's biggest Christmas Dinner.

The Christ-MASSIVE meal contains a whole roasted turkey, 25 sprouts, 25 carrots, 25 parsnips, 25 pieces of broccoli a further 25 pieces of cauliflower, 25 roast potatoes and 25 pigs in blankets. All served on a silver platter with lashings of gravy and cranberry sauce.

The merry monster is the brainchild of Ashley and Louise Gargan owners of the Duck Inn in Oakenshaw, Worcs.

Ashley said the £35 meal was introduced as a challenge for turkey lovers with a large appetite. He said anyone who managed to clear their plate in under 45 minutes would win the meal on the house and a place on the pub's wall of fame.

He said: "We've offered a few food challenges at the pub before and our customers asked if we would be doing anything for Christmas.

"We wanted to create the ultimate feast, a banquet fit for a king and what better way than to serve up a whole roasted turkey with all the trimmings.

"With every festive challenge that is undertaken, the equivalent food will be donated by us, to the local food bank.

"All the ingredients are top quality and the turkey is fresh from the local butcher.

One customer brave enough to tackle the festive feast following its launch at the pub this week was Ray Wallace, 60.

The bathroom fitter from Redditch said: "I've never done anything like this before but I love Christmas dinner so I thought I'd give it a go.

"The meal was enormous, I was shocked at just how big it was, it could easily have fed six people. I usually always clear my plate but not this time, it was too enormous."
