The real reason mums like Kim Kardashian change their hair after giving birth

Haircare expert Kerry Capewell reveals why the Keeping up with the Kardashians star dyed her locks so soon after having North West

She famously went into hiding after giving birth to her daughter in June.

But Kim Kardashian is back with a bang after debuting her new blonde locks this past weekend.

We spoke to Kerry Capewell, haircare expert at Naturtint, about why new mums like Kim opt to change their hairstyle after having a baby.

"Lots of new mums change their hair style to give themselves a boost and to say to the world, 'I'm back'!” she told us.

Kerry suggested new mums choose haircuts that are easy to maintain – as there’s not much time for styling with a newborn.

“Simple cuts are best as new mums are likely to find themselves a little short on time for styling and finishing, so a wash and go approach is usually needed,” she said.

“A good hairdresser should be able to give a new mum a cut that just falls into place after washing with little effort needed.”

She also recommended mums choose longer-length styles like Kim’s as they can be worn up when hair needs washing.

“Mid-length or longer styles can be more practical for new mums also, as you can play around with buns and ponytails meaning you can stretch out that time between washing just a little bit further!” she told us.

But she warned against dying hair within three months of giving birth as hair is still going back to its normal condition.

"Your hair even 3 months after giving birth will still be going through the transition back to its normal condition, so bear this in mind if you are considering colour or highly styled cuts,” she advised.

If you are looking to change your hair colour after giving birth, Kerry recommends using a gentle colour rinse such as Naturtint Reflex.

It gives locks a boost of colour and conditioning without using strong chemicals on more fragile hair.
