Kate Middleton and Prince William's baby name predictions cause surge in traditional royal names

British parents influenced by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are choosing traditionally royal baby names in honour of the royal baby

With Kate Middletongoing into labour this morning, baby name experts have revealed that she and Prince William have already influenced the UK's parents name choices - with traditionally royal monikers on the rise.

Though we don't let know whether the royal baby will be a girl or a boy (William Hill currently has the odds as 1/2 a girl and 6/4 a boy, though to us it seems there's a 50/50 chance of either!), the 'Kate effect' has definitely been noticed in searches for both genders.

According to parenting website Babycentre, interest in traditionally royal names has surged. Royal girls names include Alice, Grace, Elizabeth, Alexandra, Victoria, Beatrice and Charlotte. Pippa has also seen a rise, thanks nod doubt, to the Duchess of Cambridge's sister.

For boys we have Charles, Henry, Harry, George, James, William, Alfie, Edward and Alexander.

Odds for the name offered by Ladbrokes include Alexandra and Victoria tied at 4/1. Alexandra is one of Queen Elizabeth's middle names and Victoria is obviously after Queen Victoria, the previous Queen to our current Monarch.

George, the name of the Queen's father (and the royal baby's great great grandfather) was most expected for a boy until recently, with odds of 10/1. But James has just taken over after Ladbrokes cut odds from 20/1 to 6/1. James Stuart was the first King James of England and joined the Kingdom, becoming James VI of Scotland.

Zara has also made it onto the list of popular royal names and will most likely see as surge as Anne, Princess Royal's only daughter Zara Tindall (nee Phillips) also recently announced her pregnancy.

Whatever the Duke and Duchess choose, we can almost guarantee it will ride high on the baby name lists for the next few years. With all that power, we hope the pair choose wisely!
