Cara Delevingne Is NOT A 'Standout Beauty' Says Karl Lagerfeld

Chanel designer isn't bowled over by model of the moment Cara Delevingne's looks, but still loves her on his runway

He's well known for making his opinions public, regardless of who he might offend, with critiques of everyone from Kate Middleton to Michelle obama.

And the latest to suffer Karl Lagerfeld's harsh tongue is none other than one of his fave models, Cara Delevingne, who has starred on many a Chanel runway.

The German designer, who is currently Chanel's creative director, reckons the model isn't beautiful in a classic sense. And he's also not a fan of tattoos and selfies, two of Cara's fave things.

Despite regularly choosing Cara, 21, to close his shows, including this most recent at Paris Fashion Week, he suggests that her unconventional facial features (presumably that browline) is a big reason for her appeal, rather than stunning good looks.

In an interview with the Guardian he said: "She is not a standout beauty. Was it Bacon who said, 'There is not beauty without some strangeness in the proportions'?"

On the subject of selfies, which appear to be taking over the world at the moment and feature heavily in most of his models' Instagram feeds: "They are this horrible thing where you are distorted. The chin is too big, the head is too small. No, this is electronic masturbation."

But Cara can at least get away with her quirky style, she's young enough. Lagerfeld reckons that after 25 you need to be more careful.

"To be sloppy after 25 is a problem. You have to be really fresh to wear stuff that doesn't look fresh."

And don't get him started about tattoos. They're "like sleeping in a printed T-shirt, you will never get clean again." Wonder what he thinks of Cara's growing collection of ink.
