The 67-year-old actress, who’s never conformed to the ageist attitudes in the fashion and beauty world, proved that you’re never too old to rock bubblegum coloured hair.
Helen jumped on a trend we’ve seen building recently. Kelly Osbourne has been rocking her lavender locks for several months, catwalk model (and new United Colors of Benetton personality) Charlotte Free is well known for her baby-pink style and who doesn’t love Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards purple ‘do?
In a look quite unlike the Queen, who she’s portrayed several times, Helen matched her new pink ‘do with bright pink lips as she swept down the carpet in a floor-length white gown - which suffered at the hem from the stereotypical London rain.
The multi award-winning actress was attending the show after being nominated for the Leading Actress Bafta for her role in Hitchcock, opposite Anthony Hopkins. She paired the white frock with drop earrings, a silver clutch and a satin-grey shawl. Enjoying the red carpet, despite the rain, Helen spun round, showing off the long train on and embroidery on the dress.
Helen Mirren explained to reporters at the BAFTAs why she opted for the hair colour change.
"I just thought it would be fun!" she explained.
"I was watching America's Next Top Model - did you watch the season where they had the British girls and the American girls? Well do you remember the British girl that won? She had pink hair and I thought ooh that looks really pretty! So I'm copying her basically."

We reckon Helen has given the blue rinse a totally up to date spin - wonder if we’ll be noticing a sudden uptake in the over sixties of pastel colours and pink tones.
