Helen Hunt has surprised fashion critics at the Oscars 2013 by opting for a high street dress for the biggest event in the Hollywood calendar.
The 49-year-old actress wore a navy strapless dress (not wholly unlike Reese Witherspoon's Louis Vuitton version) on the Academy Award red carpet.
Though a thrifty option, Helen did give a nod to the importance of the occasion by adding $75,000-worth of jewels to embellish the dress.
The Academy Award winning actress (best actress for As Good As It Gets in 1998), is up against Anne Hathaway for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Sessions.
Helen explained to E! presenter Ryan Seacrest that her navy blue dress was 'green', which we're assuming refers to H&M's eco-friendly credentials.
And she proves you don't have to spent thousands to look good on the red carpet. Though she kind of negates that by the thousands of dollars worth of jewels sewn to the dress. And it probably could have done with an iron. Still, a brave choice.
She's not the first celeb to wear high street to a high octane event, however. Rihanna, Kristen Stewart and even Kim Kardashian have all been known to dabble with brands that even us mere mortals could afford!
Helen showed off her embellishments and paired her dress with a sparkling multi-strand necklace, that must have been a few of those tens of thousands.
