Hair how-to: Freida Pinto’s The Great Gatsby inspired up-do at Cannes

Get the look: The actress dazzled on the red carpet with a chic, 1920s style finished off with on-trend hair jewellery

Freida Pinto showcased a stunning red-carpet hair look at the premiere of The Bling Ring in Cannes.

The actress wowed with a chic, glossy up-do that looked influenced by the fashion film of the moment, The Great Gatsby.

Her choice of hairdo allowed her embellished Sanchita frock and matte red lips to take centre stage.

We spoke to Nikki Purcell at Paul’s Hair World to find out how we could re-create Freida’s 1920s style look at home.

Freida Pinto’s Cannes hair look in three easy steps

1)    First, comb your hair into a left side-parting and secure it into a low ponytail – leaving your fringe out to style later.

2)    The next step is to twist your ponytail and wrap it around to create a small bun – securing with hair pins the same colour as your hair.

3)    Next, curl your fringe using a triple barrel weaver to create eye catching waves – Nikki recommends Babyliss Porcelain Triple Barrel Waver, £41.99.

“Use bobby pins to pin the hair in the centre of the fringe, sweeping it away from your face and emphasising the wave,” Nikki told us.

The final step of Freida’s red-carpet hair look is hair jewellery – and she’s not the only star to have worn it recently.

The hair jewellery trend

Katy Perry and Sienna Miller both opted for stylish hair jewellery at the Met Gala recently to complete their red carpet look.

“Hair jewellery is an affordable way to give your hair style that ‘old Hollywood glamour’ which is huge at the moment,” said Nikki.

“Perfect for proms and weddings, hair jewellery is a great way to complement your style, whether up or down.”

Hair jewellery has always been fashionable, but with The Great Gatsby causing somewhat of a 1920s renaissance, there’s never been a better time to invest in some.
