Hair colour trends for 2014 - what you should be doing with your locks ahead of the New Year

Now is the time to start putting together your 2014 hair plan. We've had a chat with Colour Masters Jasmin Allen, Jade Blackley, Madhu Reid and Jessica Speechly at Errol Douglas Salon to help you plan.

With just over two months to go before the New Year, now is the time to start putting together your 'hair plan' for 2014.

Ridiculous as it sounds, if you're big on seasonal style trends, your hair should be a big factor, and putting together a hair plan is an absolute necessity.

It can take a good few months for drastic colour changes to settle and complete, so it's important to get started on your plan with a solid head start - even if you're only planning for a single event.

And with Autumn/Winter trends channelling nineties tartan with blood-red lips, Colour Masters Jasmin Allen, Jade Blackley, Madhu Reid and Jessica Speechly at Errol Douglas salon say it's time to embrace your dark side.

The girls have put together an AW13 colour chart to help you plan your New Year locks - with plenty of time to make the change.

[ How to complete the metallic eye look ]

Go Sweet - Chocolate and Honey
Best for: This one is good for all skin tones, as long as the right shades are chosen from olive skin tones through to fair-skinned ladies.
The colour: Chocolate Roots and honey pieces throughout the ends and around the hairline.
The technique: Block colours and thick slices combined to create a real flow through the hair.
Seen on: Nicole Scherzinger

Shine Bright - Hidden 'shine' panels

Best for: Those who fancy a dramatic colour change but want to retain that lightness in the final look - if you're clinging to your summer locks, this is the one for you. This is also great for those with a block colour who wish to add dimension.
The colour: "Shine Lines" high shine panels and variations on the dominant hair colour.
The technique: Hidden panels that give the illusion of light reflecting on the hair.
Seen on: Chanel A/W13 runway - but it would suit Jennifer Lawrence (lighter tones to enhance the layers in her brunette look) or Dakota Johnson (development into an all over blonde via light blonde shine lines)

Block It - Blocked out colour
Best for: Both olive and fair skin tones work for this one (this would be down to bespoking the shade with a colourist) and green-eyed ladies.
The colour: Chocolatey-Auburn.
The technique: All over colour.
Seen on: Kristen Stewart, this would also suit Jessica Biel and Khloe Kardashian.

Ashed out - Keep it cool
Best for: Fair skin tones with light-coloured eyes. Ladies that want a dramatic change that shows off their features. Really shows off a bob and styles with blunt fringes.
The colour: Raven and cool “ashy” browns
The technique: All over colour formulated to be “ash” cool in tone, whilst retaining shine. Using natural tones for a dramatic effect.
Seen on: Burberry A/W13 runway, but it would suit Katie Holmes, Kim Kardashian and Miranda Kerr.
