How To Apply The Gold Rush Beauty Trend - AW11

Gold was mixed with darker hues at Jason Wu to give the shade an almost gothic luxe look. High shimmer gold over a smoky eye creates a gorgeous, yet edgy party look.

Our top beauty tip for this trend is to wear a good eye make-up primer underneath to get the most out of your make-up.

We love everything about this eye palette, from the mix of shades to the embossed locked ‘C’s, it’s almost too pretty to use.

Looks aside, the four metallic colours lend themselves well to the Gold Rush Beauty Trend. If you want to follow the Jason Wu trend to the letter stick with the shimmering gold and apply over your sultry smoky eye.

However it is also worth noting that the other three shades are good for channelling a slightly subtler look. Start with the lighter shade and layer and blend your colours, then finish with a sweep of gold across the centre of your lids.

Bronzed radiance was the main beauty theme at Etro with defined cheekbones, a dusting of eye shadow and an all over golden glow. The tones are much warmer, softer and more natural compared to Jason Wu. If you want to recreate this look, a good foundation is key and remember, less is more.

With three warm golden shades, Stila’s ‘It Girl’ Eyeshadow Compact is perfect for achieving a similar sun kissed glow to Etro. The eyeshadows offer a touch of shimmer, but in no way are they over the top.

Michael Kors has created one of the most coveted gold looks of the season by simply opting for simplicity. With a full lid of metallic gold eyeshadow and a pop of brown mascara, Michael Kors has created an easy way of giving your look a touch of glamour that’s perfect for the day or evening.

Coat your eyelids with Aveda’s glistening gold eyeshadow for a sophisticated, wearable take on the Gold Rush Beauty Trend. If you want to make your eye make-up look bolder, use Aveda’s Eye Shadow Transformer. The clear liquid serum mixes with the eyeshadow and makes the colour visibly brighter and stronger. If you haven’t tried it out, it’s definitely worth looking into.

The gold rush didn’t stop with the eyes at Jason Wu. The designer also gave eyebrows a coating of gold dust. Hair was given a strip of sparkling gold and nails were tipped with the colour.

Why paint the town red when you could paint it gold with Butter London’s ‘Full Monty’ nail polish. The rich shade is ideal for recreating Jason Wu’s look or painting the whole nail. Not only will it give your hands a glamorous makeover, but the chip-resistant formula will last for at least five days.

Preen’s take on the Gold Rush Beauty Trend was similar to that of Etro by giving models a touch of summer with radiant complexions. Lips and eyes were kept simple to keep the focus on the skin.

Clarin’s Passion Face Palette has been launched as part of the Christmas collection and it is without a doubt one of our favourites. The palette illuminates skin, helped by a touch of gold mixed in.

Apply this product over your foundation and blend using your hands to ensure a streak-free look.

Fashion-wise Balmain worked the gold rush look like no other on the AW11 catwalks, so it’s not surprising that the beauty touched on the trend. However it was much more subtle than you might expect. There was no shimmer or sparkle, instead natural shades were combined with glimmers of gold to create a softly illuminated complexion.

Soap & Glory’s make-up collection has gone from strength to strength since launching earlier this year. The Solar Powder is perfect for giving skin an extra boost of radiance and highlighting cheekbones. Mix both shades together and apply along your cheekbones up to your eyes and dust a little across your forehead, nose and chin to balance your colour.
