Gizzi Erskine: I'm slimmer than ever thanks to my new diet... but I still want to die in a bucket of KFC

Our food hero tells us just how she shed the pounds while treating herself to her favourite fried food. We'll have what she's having.

Her new book is all about eating whatever you want and losing weight at the same time.

And Gizzi Erskine is certainly the poster girl for her new food movement after shedding a stone, while still tucking into the odd plate of fried chicken.

Proving that she's certainly not like any other diet expert, the 34-year-old tells us that her passion for fried food hasn't compromised her shrinking waistline. And if this is the future of weight loss, we want in.

The cook, writer and foodie, who whipped us up a lunch of to-die-for Korean Fried Chicken at the Maison Triumph as part of their Maker's Campaign, admitted her guilty food secret as we tasted her own version of a KFC feast.

She said: ''I'd kill for fried chicken, I want to die in a bucket of KFC. It's my favourite thing ever.''

And Gizzi is all about helping women to lose weight without compromising on taste, as detailed in her food bible Skinny Weeks And Weekend Feasts.

She told us: ''I really thought what do women really want when it comes to food? And I realized that women want to be able to eat whatever the hell they want and not have to compromise on flavours or anything like that and still be able to maintain their weight at least, or lose weight if they could.

''I want to show how you can reduce calories but still have fried food. Deep fried doesn't necessarily mean unhealthy. It's how we eat in the western world that's a problem.

''My weight loss was just literally down to sticking to this diet - it just completely works for me. I have my good days and my naughty days.

''Everything that I do has tried to include music, food fashion, art. We should have all the serious stuff like locality and ethics under out skin now already, all that stuff should be a given when it comes to cooking. I don't want to be preaching about it, I just want to be having fun with food.''

But while her cooking is all about losing weight, Gizzi's just like us and loves the odd naughty treat… even if it's not what what you might expect.

''One of the coolest things I've eaten was a hot dog with mac and cheese on it – it was the most bizarre thing ever and it should have been so wrong but it tasted so right. Ultimately if it tastes good, it's good,'' she said.

While Gizzi's been phenomenally successful, she's had a tough ride ever since the beginning of her career and has had to fight prejudice over her appearance and her sex.

''I was once at the Good Food Show and Jamie Oliver's then agent came up to me and told me they'd love to sign me. Then they told me they loved everything about me apart from my image. They were trying to take the me out of me. I thought, this isn't what I should be doing.''

The star has also struggled with her TV career, claiming that Channel 4 bosses told her to 'dumb down' for her latest show.

''Last year I did a big show on Channel 4 and it was probably the worst thing I ever did. I was pulled in by Channel 4 and they told me that I had to cook with a make chef and pretend that I didn't know what I was talking about.

''I just thought – get a presenter! They said that they had to dumb me down a bit – those were their exact words,'' she said.

''I was actually forced to do that show – I didn't want to do it, but Channel 4 really wanted me to and I didn't want to burn any bridges. But I've not worked for Channel 4 again.''

Whatever her image, we think that our our new food hero might have just started a new movement when it comes to dieting.

Now, where's out deep fat fryer?
