Gary Barlow named Celebrity Dad of the Year

Gary Barlow has been named celebrity dad of the year for the first time.

The Take That singer, who is also number one in the singles chart, pipped reigning champion Peter Andre to the title.

Earlier in the year, Barlow posted a message on Twitter telling two-time consecutive winner Peter Andre it was time to “stand aside.”

Barlow is already father to three children Daniel, Emily and Daisy, and his wife Dawn is expecting another girl.

The award comes just days after organising The Diamond Jubilee Concert outside Buckingham Palace.

He said: "It feels amazing to win the Premier Inn Celeb Dad of the Year award - I've been waiting for it for a long time!

"My kids are really excited and I don't think they can quite believe it. Being a dad is a really important part of my life and it means a lot to have won this award."

The Premier Inn Celebrity Dad of the Year 2012 award is meant to reward the celebrity dad who has "impressed the nation by balancing a hectic public life with the demands of parenting."

Other famous nomineees for the title included Wayne Rooney, Jay-z, Jamie Oliver, Cristiano Ronaldo, Vernon Kay and Prime Minister David Cameron.
