Empty calorie foods or drink substances are those that do not provide any real nutritional value. This includes foods with a source of energy deriving from ethanol, fats or processed carbohydrates, such as fizzy, sugary drinks, alcohol and confectionary. Empty calories tend to come from foods with little or no vitamin or mineral content and so they do not benefit the body.
