The Cookie Diet: Can it really work?

To beat the obesity crisis, doctors recommend eating cookies all day - but there's a catch

With obesity rates soaring and our willpower dwindling ever further, one doctor has taken it into his own hands to create a cookie that won't make us fat.

In fact, the cookie was specifically created as a filling, healthy snack to eat as part of a weight loss programme, dubbed the 'Cookie Diet'. It's new to the UK but has been available in the US for 40 years. So take what you will from that.

But despite it not single-handedly solving the fat problem in the US, a UK nutritionist Dr Sarah Brewer has put her weight behind the Cookie Diet, agreeing that if used according to the diet instructions on the box, eating nine cookies a day can help you lose weight.

Following instructions does mean, however, you'll have to skip breakfast and lunch in favour of a cookie. And unless you're blue and furry, that could get a little tedious.

Dr Brewer said: "Sadly obesity is on the rise and it is important to think about what we are eating to develop a long-term healthy eating regime and to exercise more.

"The nice thing about the cookie diet is that once you have lost the amount of weight you want to, you can continue to use the cookies as a healthy snack in-between reintroducing your breakfast and lunch.”

Judging by the video, the cookies taste pretty nice. They are low calorie, high in protein and fibre and are made from natural food products - not your average, sugary, fatty treat.

But we're not totally convinced we could live until dinner time every day on just nine cookies. But if you're bonkers about biscuits, this could be right up yours street. Let us know if you give it a go!
