When the campaign shots for Versace’s first ever Young Versace collection landed, starring Cindy Crawford’s daughter Kaia, we all admired (and gasped at) the likeness between mother and daughter. Then the backlash began, with comments that the 10-year-old was too young to be in the modeling industrybefore her career was stalled by her famous mom. Now Cindy’s reignited the debate by saying that although she's super proud of her offspring, she’s a tad jealous too.
‘I look at my daughter and I’m like, ‘‘You have my old skin and I want it back!"', the 46-year-old said. 'You have my old legs, I want them back! You have my old hair, I want it back! She is just getting more and more beautiful and, you know . . . But at the same time, there’s so much good that comes with it. And I think if you’re happy in your life, it’s a lot easier to take.’
Cindy was just 16 years old when she was discovered by Elite modeling agency, later becoming the muse of Gianni Versace and one of the original supermodels. 'I'm so thrilled that Kaia was chosen to be part of the first Young Versace Campaign,' she revealed. 'I have so many fond memories of the times I spent with Gianni and Donatella. There is something so very special about the House of Versace. I am so proud of her.' Aww. Meanwhile, Donatella described Kaia as having 'a very special gift' and said that 'like her mother, the camera really, really loves her'.
So why did La Crawford put a hold on her daughter’s modeling career? 'At this point, she’s too young to pursue a career,' she explains. 'There aren’t even a handful of jobs for a 10-year-old girl… but if she's 17 and wants to try it, of course, what can I say?'
