Pass the sprouts! UK has one of the healthiest traditional Christmas dinners in the world

From France's foie gras to America's eggnog, check out the most calorific festive feasts around the world

Between our bacon sandwiches and full English breakfasts, us Brits don’t have a reputation for being the healthiest eaters in the world.

But it turns out that when it comes to Christmas dinners, our turkey and trimmings is one of the healthiest traditional meals in the world.

A new survey has found that out of 15 world countries that celebrate the festive season, the UK came 11th in terms of most calorific Christmas feasts with the average British dinner containing 30 grams of fat.

Cranberry sauce was one of the healthier options on our plates come December 25th but the classic chestnut stuffing packs a whopping 12 grams of fat per serving.

Surprisingly Spain’s Christmas dinner was found to be the fattiest at an eye-watering over 70 grams of fat, thanks to their traditional main course of roast lamb and nougat for dessert.

The USA came in second thanks to their fondness for eggnog and France rounded out the top three with calorific foie gras being a popular festive dish.

Well done to Kenya, who had the healthiest Christmas meal made up of lean roasted goat and chapatti (unleavened bread).

Our fave dessert of Christmas pudding also came out rather well compared to their international counterparts with just 5 grams of fat per portion compared to an American slice of pumpkin pie (13 grams) or a piece of German stolen cake (11 grams).
