Cate Blanchett makes bizarre fashion faux pas in 3D puffball dress at Blue Jasmine premiere

Aussie actress stepped out in the unique Balenciaga outfit for the red carpet of Woody Allen’s new film

Cate Blanchett is one of Hollywood’s most prestigious and in-demand actresses – but even she makes fashion faux pas sometimes.

The Aussie star had a wardrobe malfunction on the red carpet for her new film Blue Jasmine, stepping out in this bizarre Balenciaga creation.

The Oscar-winning actress, 44, donned a blush pink dress by the French fashion house that sported a unique oversized waterfall-hem.

Cate’s dress opened up to double her width – while the lower half looked like it’d been dragged through a flowery swamp.

The billowing champagne-coloured frock made the stunning actress look much larger than she was and the back of it dragged along the floor.

But at least she kept to the colour scheme, wearing her Balenciaga dress with classic nude heels.

The Hobbit actress made up for her slight fashion faux pas with a stunning hair and beauty look, showcasing beautifully radiant skin.

The mum-of-three completed her pretty beauty look with smokey eyes and nude-coloured lipstick.

Earlier in the day, Cate wowed the New York sidewalk in a figure-hugging Altuzarra frock from the designer’s AW13 collection.

The Elizabeth: The Golden Age actress teamed the body-sculpting frock with rather odd shoes – a pair of Nicholas Kirkwood open-toe sandals.

Cate has rocked some questionable sartorial choices in the past – including a futuristic red sequined gown and a colour-block dress on the red carpet.

We reckon she should stick to outfits like the black Altuzarra dress – classic, but with a modern update to channel her quirky style.
