The British Olympic athletes taking over fashion

With just over six months to go before the 2012 Olympics, British fashion and beauty brands are racing to nab the hottest athletes to be their ambassadors.

The latest British based label to snap up our talent is Dunhill who has used past and current Olympians to star in their ‘Voice' spring 2012 campaign.

Olympic gymnast and medal hopeful Louis Smith is joined by Iain Percy, already a double Olympic gold medal sailing champion, and Sir Matthew Pinsent who has won four gold medal paddling to success with the British rowing team.

The images shot by renowned photographer David Sims features each of the trio dressed in the finest English gentleman threads: Smith in a tuxedo, Percy in a coat with a knitted collar, and Pinsent in a suit and tie teamed with an overcoat.

Accompanying the images are short essays by the men that give us intimate insight into their personalities and what makes them so remarkable.

© DunhillThis is the third instalment of the Voice campaign and this time around Dunhill want it to be, “Brilliant, inspiring, driven, engaging men with opinions, flaws and stories to tell.”

While the men are doing their best to promote quintessential English style, women from Team GB were first off the blocks and on the track to being the best-groomed athletes.

Champion track cyclist Victoria Pendleton, Swimmer Kerri-Ann Payne and pentathlon champion Jessica Ennis have been signed up to be the face of cosmetic brands from the beauty giant Proctor and Gamble.

Pendleton will front Pantene's Smooth & Sleek range keeping her brunette locks in peak condition in the run-up to the Olympics. Her teammate Jessica Ennis is the new face of Olay Skin Essentials, and swimmer Keri-Anne Payne, the first Team GB athlete to qualify for the 2012 Games, will promote Max Factor's False Lash Effect Gold mascara.

As well as representing beauty products, Kerri-Anne Payne joins sprinter Christian Malcolm, Paralympic rower Tom Aggar and Paraylmpic cyclist Sarah Storey of Team GB as ambassadors of jewellery favourite Links of London.

The athletes will sparkle on the centre stage wearing jewellery from their special London 2012 Entwine range and collection of team charms.

Combining all those amazing sponsorship deals, is Team GB destined to be the best looking team of athletes at the London 2012 Olympic Games?

Why aren't the photographers credited? They are the creative force who made these images possible, not the board of directors at Dunhill

He is: it's 'renowned photographer David Sims' according to the article

Did you have to place banana nose as the first pic? The rest of them look good. But why are the majority of them in outfits that hide their figure? Lol.

Not as if the average viewer will be able to afford such clothing!!!

I hope that they aren't taking pics and doing adverts when they should be training, or even resting from training. I'd rather Team GB the highest medal scorers in the world than the best looking team in the world thanks.

not a wheelchair or prosthetic limb in sight - oops, sorry, paralympics is a dirty word in fashion circles? The usual image of Dunhill is an old man in slippers and cardigan puffing on his pipe in the armchair : is this really the same company now wishing to identify with 'hot' athletes?

Are they going to repay the taxpayer from their earnings as our students are required to do?
      • Caroline 3 months ago
Eh? Repay the taxpayer for what exactly?

The money they and their friends have scrounged from the taxpayers for facilities and grants, stealth taxes imposed on their customers by their sponsors and the osbscene amount of money squandered on the Olympic games, when we have other sections of the community in desperate need of this money. Indeed if these freeloaders had a shred of decency between them, they would refuse to compete in protest!

Olympians work exceptionally hard for the country, they do not receive much money individually from the state and generally work their training around study or work. In fact all the olympians I know are very poor and most of their training funds come from the subscriptions of the clubs they are members of. Take your ignorance elsewhere

Matthew Pinsent hot?????? You cannot be serious. Couldn't they have found some CURRENT hot Olympians like Ben Ainslie, Mark Cavendish, Liam Tancock, Simon Burnett, Germaine Mason and many others instead

Actually, he's well spoken, tall and muscular, can speak intelligently and doesn't command millions a year in return for behaving like a thug/drama queen like premiership footballers, and has dedicated his life to representing his country. I think that's pretty hot.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are delusional in thinking that the UK athletes are good enough to win a gold medal, unless #$%$ gets added as an Olympic event.

Ennis is not pentathlon champ!!! However she is also not a heptathlon champ either!!!
