Our Guide To The Blue Tones Trend – SS12

A focus colour at Fendi’s spring summer 2012 show in Milan, blues in multiples shades were seen in numerous guises.

Complete with a coiffed updo, the look was demure but light and summery at the same time. Take inspiration and swap a classic office shirt for something a little more on trend like Fendi’s crop sleeve blouse in this season’s key shade.

This draped jersey t-shirt in feminine cornflower blue is a real weekend wear favourite. With a flattering scoop neck, this is the perfect top to team with delicate everyday jewellery and for under £10 you can certainly justify investing in a couple of shades.

Being such an easy colour to wear and suited to the vast majority of skin tones, we recommend you mix and match teaming with a pair of navy shorts or trousers.

With a nod to the Riviera chic fashion trend, these Dorothy Perkins shorts are a fashionable way to buy into this summer’s statement shade. Incorporating two trends in one hit, they’re stylish and made wearable with their higher waist and mid length finish.

Team with a classic t-shirt or loose fit white shirt for a casual summer outfit and add a couple of long layered necklaces to complete the look.

Updating a pair of denim jeans or casual trousers with a focal blue belt is the effortless way to buy into this trend. From Hobbs’ premium range NW3, we love this Ramana belt with its chic nautical fashion trend feel.

Tuck in your top to make sure the belt is fully on display and finish off with a bag and shoes with contrasting gold metal hardware.

The classic ballet flats, French Sole shoes may be fairly expensive but you can rest assured that you’ll be able to get hold of a pair in pretty much any shade of blue.

We love this dusky blue tone complete with metallic trim in super soft suede. Be sure to keep them out of the rain and spray with a suede protector to keep them in top condition all summer long.

King of tailoring, Roland Mouret opted for shades of turquoise and electric blue in his latest catwalk show – often mixing varying hues in one look.

If you’re looking to work one of these brighter tones, follow suit and coordinate with shoes in neutral hues. Complete the look with low key everyday jewellery, flawless finish make-up and use a bold eyeliner to nod to this season’s cats eyes beauty trend.

With chunky hardware detail and in summer’s key shade, Sophie Hulme’s simple shopper goes from practical holdall to fashion forward tote in seconds.

Inject a fashionable twist to an off-duty weekend outfit with this shopper and add a pop of colour to an otherwise neutral look. A great way to nod to spring’s bright colour palette, it’s a statement accessory that you’ll love for seasons to come.

We’ve always been a fan of MiH jeans but have only recently discovered its capsule clothing range.

Super versatile, this Birkin shirt comes in sheer super-soft cotton complete with crop sleeves and gathered detail at the shoulders. Easy summer officewear, team with a pencil style work skirt and throw on a statement necklace to dress up for evening and take you from day to night with ease.

While SS12’s modern safari fashion trend incorporated touches of traditional animal print, this intense colourway is the perfect piece to help you tackle two trends in one go.

An update on a classic and one of the easiest everyday accessories, L.K. Bennett’s Calinda scarf is an affordable investment that will instantly lift any summer look. There’s also a more subtle version too with a hint of raspberry red if this piece is a little too statement for your outfit.

Summer’s denim update, coloured jeans were big news this season. While pastel shades can be harder to pull off, this cobalt blue pair from Wallis is an all round style winner and will flatter the vast majority of figure shapes.

Go bold – opt for a colour blocking finish and team with an equally bright coordinating shade. Lengthen the leg and add a pair of high heeled chunky sandals.

Playful and fun, Dolce & Gabbana’s baby blue shades are the perfect summer holiday accessory.

Oversized sunglasses are one of the easiest shapes to wear so if this is your first attempt at trialling the coloured sunglasses look, these are a good option. The matt finish gives them a grown up feel and polished aesthetic – all you need to do now is decide on a bikini and beach cover-up to match.
