Emma Watson says long hair ‘better for her acting career’

A short pixie crop might be a charming, on-trend haircut, but it’s not good for your acting career, according to Emma Watson.

“If I want to keep acting, then its more flexible for me to have [my hair] longer for different roles, it’s quite a specific cut,” Watson told Elle Magazine.

The 20-year-old chopped off her signature long blonde locks last August in favour of a sleek and stylish Twiggy-inspired hairdo.

The hair makeover marked the end of her stint in the Harry Potter franchise, where she was contractually obliged not to cut her hair for her role as Hermione.

“I am trying to grow it but it’s slow, it’s taking a while obviously,” she said. “I’m kind of looking forward to getting to a cute little bob stage.”

At the Elle Style Awards on Sunday, Watson received top honours as Style Icon, and was presented with her gong by acclaimed designer Vivienne Westwood. Unfortunately, Westwood claimed she didn’t know who the actress was.

“Who is Emma Watson?,” the 69-year-old asked at the podium. “I don’t know anything about her.”

Unfazed by Westwood’s comments, Watson, who wore a nude Hakaan mini dress with cutaway sides on the red carpet, received her award with a humble acceptance speech.

“It feels amazing. Fashion is something that I love. I try not to think about it too much. I try and block all that off and I just do what I love and just have fun with it. I’ve definitely been feeling the pressure a bit more recently but it’s just fun for me.”

Watson has just been named the new face of Lancôme Cosmetics. She has previously starred in fashion ads for Burberry and has worked together with eco-friendly brand People Tree.
