Three key trends at the Matalan A/W12 press show

Y! Lifestyle got a sneak peek at the Matalan A/W press show to find out what we'll be wearing when the autumn rolls round

We know it's still only July, but it's never too early to think about your outfits for those Christmas parties. High street chain Matalan has come up trumps this year with its rather sparkly Autumn/Winter 2012 collection.

Here are our three top trends from the event.

    Trend 1: Sequins

You couldn't look at a clothes rail without being dazzled by the reflection of a hundred coloured sequins. They adorned dresses, tops, heels, bags and skirts alike. We loved the festive red sequined peplum top best (with the chic black version a close second), that took inspiration from the sequined peplums designed by Tory Burch at New York Fashion Week.

Sequins also appeared on the mesh detail of a bodycon dress that is now firmly on our wish list, as per Elie Saab's stunning gowns at Paris Fashion Week. If you fancy something a little less conspicuous, the sequined heeled wedges are ideal for you as it's a more subtle nod to the trend. We'll be covered in bling by Christmas.

    Trend 2: Studs

The studded trend is here to stay, having made an appearance at fashion weeks as far back as Y! Lifestyle can remember. We were especially taken by this cream leather jacket with stud detailing on the collar and the cream studded bag with rose gold detailing. Studs were also featured on slipper-style pumps in a plethora of Christmas colours, as well as this royal blue clutch. If you're really daring, make like a Miu Miu model and stick studs to your eyebrows for the full effect!

    Trend 3: Brocade print

The final trend we spotted is this very festive brocade print. This is something that comes back in year after year over Christmas. If you think this delicate brocade is just for your Nan's curtains, think again, because Stella McCartney plastered this print all over her dresses at Paris Fashion Week and it's making a comeback on the high street this winter. We reckon this gold brocade print peplum dress (left) is perfect for making an entrance to the office Christmas party, but it's this top/skirt duo on the right that'll keep you way ahead of the fash pack. Rihanna Would definitely be a fan.

We almost can't wait for the winter.
