Owner Celebrates Life Of His Rescue Dog With Adorable Time-Lapse Video

Thanks to a genetic disorder, Dave Meniert doesn't know how long Pegasus will live but he's documenting every day they have together

Rescuing a pet is one of the most rewarding things you can do.

But what do you do when the dog you’re adopting has serious health issues that left their brothers and sisters either deformed or dead?

If you’re filmmaker Dave Meinert and Pegasus, you document every day you get to spend together.

South African Dave rescued Pegasus as a 4-week old puppy from some backyard breeders.

Pegasus is a ‘double-merle’, which refers to the colour of her coat, but means that she is at a much higher risk of becoming deaf, blind or both.

“Rather than focus on the negative, I wanted a way to document her good days of good health and celebrate them,” Dave writes on Bored Panda.

“I set about taking a picture of her growing up every day not knowing how long it would last.”

The final video is an adorable time lapse of Pegasus on a treadmill, growing from a four-week old pup into a seven-month old dog.

“I still don’t know how long she is going to live,” writes Dave, “…but right now is pretty great.”

As well as his homemade movie, Dave posted pictures of Pegasus including two snaps showing how much the blue-eyed pooch has grown in six months.

According to the charity Dog's Trust, there are 110,000 stray or abandoned dogs in the UK with an average of 21 dogs being put down every day.
