The market for anti ageing products is absolutely huge but if you’re barely pushing mid-twenties, it seems a bit keen to get started on them now right?

Of course there are the tips we ALL know we should do, like wearing SPF, quitting smoking and not scrubbing our faces but in real life it’s more like #CBA.

How about some more practical ‘real-life’ tips? Small changes which require minimal willpower and will make a big difference!

Draw A Fine Line, Not Fine Lines

We’ve all done it before - dragging an eyeliner backwards and forwards across the eyes to get that ultimate blackest black look. Doing this once a day over the next few years leads to plenty of fine lines in the future!

How about switching to liquid eyeliner or gel instead? These product high impact results and don’t put as much force on the skin.

If you’re a die-hard eye pencil pro, then at least make sure you get the softest eyeliner pencil you can – I like Urban Decay Glide On Eyeliner or the Stila Smudge Stick.

Stop Sleeping On Your Face

Lying on your side, or on your front, places pressure on your face which can constrict blood vessels and reduce circulation through the skin.

Sleeping on your face also squidges your face into unnatural shapes resulting in some wrinkles which wear off during the day and some which don’t!

Say goodbye to fine lines in the long run by changing your sleeping position to sleeping on your back. Yes yes, I know lying on your side is infinitely more comfortable, but lying on your back not only reduces the pressure on your face, it’s also meant to be the best position for your back and neck.

If sleeping on your back is a total no-go for you, try a silk or satin pillowcase which has less grip on skin (and also tames wild hair!). Alternatively, there are ways to position your face and your body such that less of your face is on the pillow and more body weight is distributed through your arms, or via a side pillow instead.

Onwards And Upwards

How do you apply your face cream? Forehead first? Downwards circles? Products should be applied in an upwards motion to prevent sagging skin. And don’t forget about your neck either – start from your collarbone and work upwards.

Cream around the eyes only needs to be patted in – your ring finger is commonly touted as the best finger to use around the delicate eye area. The same goes for under-eye concealer too, be gentle!

How Do You Take Off Your Makeup?

After a night out, there’s nothing more satisfying than coming home and taking off your warpaint. Instead of peeling off false eyelashes, wash them off with warm water. Not only does peeling off lashes drag the delicate eye skin, it also risks the chance of pulling a couple of your own lashes too!

Some face cleanser or face oil with warm water will slip them off within seconds and remove any makeup at the same time so that the lashes can be used again.

Finally, Avoid Products Outside Your Age Group

With all the anti-ageing products available, it’s very very tempting to just buy the latest hyped serum or eye cream. Don’t do it! It can actually have a negative effect on younger skin.

Anti-ageing products for older skin are often full of rich, moisture-heavy ingredients which might block pores and cause breakouts in younger skin.

The exfoliants and acids in anti-ageing creams might also irritate your skin and make it more sensitive to sunlight, thus increasing damage from sun exposure. It’s a backwards circle people, don’t be tempted to use products which aren’t designed for you!

So there we go, some quick and easy changes that you can start TODAY. Don’t wait until the wrinkles arrive, prevention is always better than the cure. Do you have an anti-ageing routine yet?
