POST-CHRISTMAS PARTY SKINCARE SAVIOURS

Alcohol can be extremely dehydrating for your body and skin, so the first thing you need to do the morning after a heavy night is to re-hydrate and moisturise your skin.

I’m going to assume that you probably did not get round to removing your makeup last night – major faux pas – so not only is your skin dehydrated but it is also congested. To start dissolving and effectively removing your leftover makeup, double cleanse with a non-rinse makeup remover followed by a gentle cream cleanser.

These are both tried and tested products that are very effective yet gentle enough to use on sensitive skin giving fabulous results! The Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution (£9.99 via Escentual) is a cult makeup favourite as it can quickly cleanse the skin without aggravating it, while the Antipodes Grace Gentle Cleanser ( £25 via Antipodes) has been formulated with antioxidants and avocado oil to help repair the damage to your skin’s tissue caused by everyday life.

So first things first. Soak a cotton pad with the micellar water and work that into your skin to remove your makeup, then massage the cream cleanser into your face to boost your skin’s circulation and remove any makeup spots that you might have missed.

With your skin now washed, cleansed and hopefully glowing a little, let’s get it ready for action with a quick squirt of Dr Jart’s Most Moist Water Act Skin Mist (£18 via Birchbox UK) to boost your skin’s absorption levels and allow your favourite cream, serum or moisturiser to get to work a tad bit quicker.

As the eyes are the windows to the soul - at least that’ is what THEY say - it is important to pay attention to the skin around it. The skin around your eyes is very delicate and can easily show signs of a heavy night of partying - e.g puffy, bloodshot eyes. A way to combat this you ask? Gently dab Colbert MD Nourish Eye Cream (£90 via Space NK) or the Super Facialist Vitamin C Dark Circles Eye Cream (£12.99 via Boots) around your eyes for a cooling, pick me up and to reduce the appearance of puffy eyes.

After moisturising and hydrating your skin, do not make the mistake of wearing too much makeup to try and cover up how tired you might feel. Opt for makeup with light-diffusing properties that will give the appearance of a healthy glow. Blendable foundations like B. Even Oil Control Foundation ( £10.99 via Superdrug), or Estee Lauder Stay In Place Powder Makeup Compact Foundation (£31 via Estee Lauder) that create an even, glowing base are perfect for the situation.

Don’t forget to pop on a hydrating concealer like NARS Creamy Concealer (£21 via LookFantastic) to highlight your under eyes and anywhere on your face that you would like to bring some positive attention to.

Do yourself a little favour by avoiding black eyeliner and smokey eyes - instead grab your favourite shimmery eyeshadow. Bourjois Color Edition Eye Shadow Petale De Glace 3 (£6.99 via Superdug) is a great example of a shimmer shade that reflects light and makes your eyes appear much more open and alert, plus, if you pair it with a bright pink or red lipstick you can direct attention away from your eyes as bright lipsticks can really brighten up your face and make your teeth appear whiter.

Now as you go about your day, remember ‘Hydration is key!’. Try to avoid coffee, fizzy drinks and tea and drink at least one litre of warm water with a slice of lemon to cleanse your body of toxins.
