Caroline Flack Blog: Girl Power On Strictly And The Story Behind My New Hairdo!

First night nerves

Have you ever been so nervous that your vision goes blurry, your body turns into a jittering mess and you feel like you're going to be sick?

Well, welcome to Strictly Come Dancing. On Friday night I took to the very slippery floor with my life saving dance partner Pasha Kovalev.

I'd found out earlier in the day that we were up first and I went into a melt down of 'OH GOD'.

Of course I’m being very dramatic and over the top because we actually had a great time.

I only made one mistake (I nearly did the Dirty Dancing thumb dance at that point) and the audience was incredible.

The judges were kind and the other contestants and pros are a godsend to each other.

We’re learning the tango this week. This involves dramatic faces and LOTS OF BODY CONTACT.

Strictly is a whole new world in which you do not know what to expect. However, with the help of my fellow ladies, even if it finished this weekend it would still be an unforgettable experience.

So let me tell you a little something about each lady in this year's troupe.

Hands down, Alison has the loudest and most infectious laugh known to humankind. When I was really nervous last week, it was Al who calmed me down by doing a silly walk every time I needed cheering up. She's ace.

Judy Murray is one witty lady. She really does makes us all laugh with her daily anecdotes of her adventures with Anton.  I love her.

Pixie is BEAUTIFUL and equally as lovely. She reminds me of a really good pick and mix. Really, really sweet. She's very talented but mega down to earth.

Frankie has a really good self-deprecating sense of humour. That's one of my favourite traits in British humour. I've known her well enough to say hello to for a few years but never realised she was this much fun.

Sunetra was my buddy on the group dance and we really needed each other. On the first show she brought us all insoles for our dance shoes. Which, if you knew how battered our feet were, you'd realise HOW AMAZING THIS WAS!

Then it brings me to Jenny. On the first day of filming when none of us knew each other she came up to me and gave me a big hug.  We experienced our first little dance together with Tim and got through it by exchanging little funny glances and giggling. And Jenny's husband makes me howl with laughter.

With Tess and Claudia taking the reigns this year. Strictly has more girl power than ever before.

I don’t think we’d be able to do this without our little whatsapp therapy group!

Good luck this weekend girls xxx

New hair cut!

When I was 14 my twin sister, Jo, used kitchen scissors to cut my Rapunzel length hair into a bob.

It was a thing that we decided to do on a whim and I think we both got grounded for two weeks as a result. However, it very much changed my life. I felt older, more sophisticated and started to find my own style as a teenager.

Last week I had my hair cut in EXACTLY the same way.

This time by a very lovely hair dresser Hannah Wynne (she also cuts Claudia’s fringe) and she used ACTUAL hairdressing scissors.

I love it. I feel fresh. I feel tidy. And I feel a tiny bit Rachel in Friends series 7.

Woman crush weekly

Strictly is all about partnerships, chemistry and hips.

However, one partnership is making me extra happy and it’s GIRL ON GIRL super team Tess and Claudia.

As a live TV presenter myself I know how hard it is to hold a team of nervous contestants together, keep the audience excited and make it look easy.

Therefore my woman crush weekly are Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.

A big shout out to the BBC for having two gorgeous females hosting their biggest show.

They are funny, warm and don't mind taking the mickey out of themselves. On top of that they are beautiful, friendly and are exactly the same off camera. Lovely.
