Watch Out Zoella, This Blind Beauty Blogger Is Giving You A Real Run For Your Money

‘Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, HOLLA!’

It’s not often we sit and watch a beauty video on YouTube and afterwards, feel like we can take on the world.

But Lucy Edwards isn’t your regular beauty blogger – she’s a one-of-a-kind blind beauty blogger, and she’s brilliant at it!

At first glance, Lucy’s channel looks like most other style-obsessed YouTubers and features videos such as ‘New Look and H&M Haul’ and ‘January Beauty Favourites.’

But she really is something special, because this 19-year-old from Birmingham is aiming to ‘bridge the gap between the disabled and the perfectly-abled’ through her expert make-up tutorials.

Posting under the pseudonym ‘Yesterday’s Wishes’, Lucy’s positive attitude is contagious and it’s clear she has the ability to become a hugely successful beauty YouTuber – visually impaired or otherwise.

Speaking to Buzzfeed, the auburn-haired teen admitted she became partially sighted at the age of 11 due to a rare disorder, and then went blind two years ago.

Through her YouTube channel, she wants to address misconceptions about visual impairments (yes, she can drive, and yes, she can draw) – while having a real laugh with her viewers.

Alongside her brilliant beauty videos, she films a series labelled ‘Blind Life Hacks’ to help blind people live their lives easier – and FAQs including ‘What Is A Cataract?’ and ‘Can Blind People Cry?’.

It’s clear that beauty is her real passion and, inspired by make-up artists Pixiwoos, she went about creating her own YT channel including tips and tricks for applying make-up as a visually impaired teen.

She learnt how to apply make-up without a mirror with help from her sister, Alice, admitting she’s had to learn to trust people when they said how her make-up looks.

“At points I’ve been like, ‘I don’t want to do this any more,’ because it’s been so frustrating,” she said.

“Like when I’ve done my eyeliner, and Alice has said, ‘It’s heavier than you would have liked when you were sighted.’ And I’m like, ‘How do you know!’

“But I have to calm down, and trust people. That’s a factor when you go blind – you have to put your trust in people a lot more with the way you look.”

And one of the things she’s learnt from years of applying her make-up without a mirror is that is takes practice – a lot of it.

It took her a while to discover which foundations required less blending, which eyeliners were easiest to apply and which mascaras had the least fallout, but now it looks like she’s got her #FOTD (that’s Face Of The Day) nailed!

She’s may be off to uni to study Law but we reckon Lucy can give professional YouTubers including Zoella, Sam Chapman and Tanya Burr a real run for their money.

Watch your backs, ladies!
