Best new season autumn nail colours

A new nail colour is a quick, easy and inexpensive way to update your look and as summer appears to have been a wash out, I'm already embracing darker, autumnal shades into my make up and wardrobe. If you're growing tired of pastels and corals it's time to ensure your nails are polished to perfection with one of the new season's most lusted-after shades.

    Deep plums

Plum is a timeless colour that will take you effortlessly from daytime to evening. Savile Row by Nails Inc is a deliciously deep shade that is rich and super-glossy. A classic deep berry will work well with almost any other colour in your wardrobe and is a staple shade that will see you right through to winter. For a plum colour with a touch more red in it, try GOSH's Berry Me special edition nail lacquer. With any dark coloured polish, remember to apply a decent basecoat beforehand or you'll risk stained nails.

    Glitters

Yup, you heard right, glitter polish is one trend that isn't going anywhere just yet. And when it comes to autumn/winter and all those Christmas parties, why would we want it to? One of my favourite glitter polishes around right now is FashionistA's Jezebel from their brand new A/W 2012 collection. It's a vibrant turquoise green shade and it makes for the perfect party polish. For a something a little subtler, try their Hidden Treasure polish, which is a classic gold glitter.

    Dark greens

I'm a big Essie fan and I love pretty much all of the colours from their brand new Fall 2012 range. One of the standout shades is Stylenomics, a rich opulent green with blue-grey undertones. If you're looking for a deep, dark shade but want something softer than black then this will tick all the boxes.

    Nudes

If you're not a fan of deep, rich colours then nudes should be your go-to for the upcoming season. If it's opaque colour and a creamy formula you're looking for then try NYX's Beige 165. It's a true beige without too many pink undertones making it perfect for autumn. For something a little peachier, Famous' Smoothie is a flattering and feminine shade, though it does take a couple of coats to get an even application.

    Pinks

If you've been wearing pastel cotton-candy pinks all summer long then it's time to take things up a notch. If you still want to embrace brights, try GOSHs Spot On! Pink for a fun and flirty colour. For a deeper, more wintery shade, FashionistA's Mulberry is a deep blue-based pink that will add a feminine touch to your autumn/winter wardrobe.
