Best alternative eyeliner colours for autumn

The changing season is the perfect time to embrace new colours into your makeup bag. If like me you always reach for the black eyeliner without a second thought, you might want to check out some of these slightly softer alternatives this autumn.

    Golden olive

NYX is an affordable American brand which is now available to buy in the UK. They have a vast colour selection and a range of different formulas and textures. One of my favourite colours from their slide on line for autumn is golden olive 05, a beautiful deep olive colour with flecks of golden shimmer. The pencil glides on like a gel and is long-wearing and waterproof. If you still have a subtle tan (or are faking it with a gradual tanner this autumn) then this shade will look great on you.

    Metallic brass

Metallic shades are universally flattering and GOSH's metallic brass eyeliner is no exception. It's a dark green-based brown with a subtle gold shimmer that defines the eyes without looking too harsh. Wear a dab of this along the outer corners of your eyes for a soft daytime look or go heavier and smudged for a smouldering evening look.

    Aubergine

Aubergine is a classic autumn shade that never goes out of fashion. If you fancy something a little brighter for a fun party look, try Barry M's liquid eyeliner in 05. It's super-easy to apply and thanks to the bold colour, a sweep of neutral shadow across the lids and coat of mascara is all you'll need to finish off the look. Using a bold eyeliner is a quick and easy way of adding a pop of colour if you're scared of wearing coloured eye shadows.

    Smoky grey

If you have a fair complexion or light hair, try grey as a softer alternative to black. I like greys that feature a touch of shimmer (though not glitter) to liven up the lids. For a super long-lasting results opt for a gel formula, such as Fashionista's gel eyeliner in short list. Gently wing out the eyeliner at the outer-corners to make your eyes standout.

    Deep brown

If like me you're a fan of neutrals, brown eyeliner is a foolproof option. If you struggle with liquid or pencil liners try a gel formula such as MUA's gel eyeliner in on the move. It's a mid-toned brown with flecks of red running through it. Gels tend to glide onto the lids easier and you can get a precise application when using a fine eyeliner brush.
