By The biggest make-up mistake is going overboard with the eyebrow pencil, according to a new study of 2,000 UK women. False-looking heavily stencilled-in brows came top of a list of common beauty mishaps, being deemed worse than over-plucking (which was the fourth most-cited mistake) and a monobrow (the seventh).

The next most voted make-up oversight was foundation tidemarks around the chin line, followed by trout pouts caused by cosmetic surgery or fillers. Other mistakes admitted to by the women polled by Superdrug, include shovelling on too much make-up, clumpy mascara, bad roots, lipstick on teeth and too much blusher.
But 90 per cent felt that bad lighting thwarted their make-up routines, even though 85 per cent believe they’ve got much better at applying their make-up as they’ve got older.
“Make-up comes down to personal preference and whether you favour thick or thin eyebrows or dark or pale lipstick, it’s your choice,” said Sarah Wolverson, from Superdrug.
“We are all guilty of making some of these mistakes at some time in our lives whether it’s being overzealous with a pair of tweezers, forgetting to blend make-up properly or smiling with lipstick on our teeth.
“Many of the blunders in this poll are genuine mistakes and could be a result of something simple like bad lighting.”
We’re not surprised eyebrow mishaps are top of women’s beauty bugbears. Sometimes described as the ‘coat hangers of your face’, getting them right can transform your appearance, slim your face and make you look years younger.
