Beauty how-to: Metallic eyes trend

Get the look of Amanda Seyfried, Bella Thorne and Anna Faris with our simple guide to gold, silver and metallic eyes

Metallic eyes are the trend to be seen in this Autumn / Winter 2013 season.

As seen on the Sass & Bide and Tom Ford AW13 runways, shades of gold, silver and bronze are key to your autumnal beauty look.

Models sported soft champagne coloured lids at Sass & Bide – teamed with rosy flushed cheeks and barely-there lips.

Tom Ford made up his models with bronze eyeshadow all over the eye socket and beneath the waterline, worn with Cara Delevingne-style bushy brows and a matte complexion.

Metallic eyes on the stars

The beauty look has transcended onto the red carpet, with everyone from Amanda Seyfried to Bella Thorne and Kat Dennings donning eyeshadow in metallic shades.

Disney star Bella Thorne looked picture-perfect this weekend with bronze eyelids that complemented her auburn locks perfectly.

And Lovelace actress Amanda Seyfried looked impeccable with a sheer wash of bronze over her lids and lashings of black mascara.

Metallic eyes in real life

The key thing to remember about the trend is to keep your lips simple. Coloured eyeshadow with a red or pink lip is too much – opt for a caramel or nude-coloured lipstick, or a simple slick of clear lipgloss like Bella.

It’s also important to choose an eye product that’s long-wearing as you don’t want it smudging all over your face and hands come lunchtime.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Stay-on Shadow Paints are a beauty favourite as they all day, don’t crease and come in an array of beautiful metallic shades.

The easiest way to work the trend is with a wash of all-over metallic eyeshadow. We recommend using a flat-topped eyeshadow brush to bring out the intensity of the colour and team it with a lengthening mascara, like Benefit They’re Real, for a camera-ready beauty look.

Another way to work the metallic eyes trend is by using a gold, silver or bronze coloured eyeliner.

Draw a feline flick on your upper lid with Sleek Makeup’s Liquid Eye Liner in Dip It Gold or line your lower waterline with Avon’s SuperShock Gel Eyeliner in Silver to work the trend – which we can vouch lasts all day.

As we approach the Christmas party season, it becomes acceptable to whip out the glitter and sequined eyeshadow – a cardinal beauty sin at any other time of year.

Make sure to use an eyeshadow primer first and then either pack your eyelids with a glitter eyeshadow or keep it simple with a line of shimmering pencil.

To complete your metallic beauty look, make like Bella Thorne and add a touch of highlighter on the cheekbones and bridge of the nose.

We like Clinique’s Up-Lighting Liquid Illuminator in Bronze to give you that famous ‘J-Lo’ glow. Blow dry tresses with a big round brush like Amanda Seyfried and you’ll be red-carpet ready in no time!
