“It all started last year when I made a cake for my lecturer. He really liked it and thought I could do more,” said Miss Parker.

“I love it. It’s a chance to be creative – I’ve always been into art.”

Sushi, burgers, sandwiches, salad, bread and rice are just some of the things Steph creates out of sponge. She spends so much time making them that it often baffles her customers.

“People are shocked when they realise it’s cake. They often don’t want to cut it because it looks so realistic,” she said.

“One bloke even asked if he could have some of the sushi!”

She doesn’t just make amazing food art, though – she’s also the only person in the UK to make mechanical cakes.

She’s adds moving parts and motors to some of her creations – including rotating dials to a slot machine cake and making a working train line from sponge.

    But she’s not stopping there.

“I really want to do a car cake that kids can drive around in,” she said.
