Atkins diet

A high protein, high fat, low carbohydrate diet which aims to reduce weight by encouraging the body to burn fat reserves rather than carbohydrate reserves. It eliminates carbohydrate rich foods such as bread, potatoes, most fruit and some vegetables and instead incorporates food such as meat, fish, eggs and cheese into the diet. Benefits are said to include weight loss, increased energy levels and memory, but many struggle to maintain this diet due to its elimination of sugar and refined grains such as white bread, rice and pasta.
