A year's worth of make-up - all at once

Ever wondered what a year’s worth of make-up would look like on your face?

Us neither, but that didn’t stop Dutch artist duo Lernert Engelberts & Sander Plug finding out in a wacky new film project called, we assume ironically, ‘Natural beauty’.

365 layers of cosmetics were applied to the face of model Hannelore Knuts, including cream blusher, foundation and lip gloss.

The shoot took nine hours, with gorgeous Knuts barely recognizable by the end of the film – it looks like her face has melted.

The madcap pair said on website Nowness that 228.40 ml of make-up was used, including seven bottles of foundation; two bottles of eye cream; three lip pens; and two bottles of blusher.

The model was fixed between panels for the whole shoot and had to eat and drink through a straw.

The artists also revealed that they did a trial run of just 100-layers on an intern (actually a man).

“We wanted to make sure that this amount of make-up wouldn't kill a person.” They said. “It didn't kill our intern so we trusted everything would be fine on Hannelore.”

The duo are considering another film in the future that will show the effects of TWO-YEAR’S worth of cosmetics.
