"Breastfeeding My Six-Year-Old Daughter Is Normal" Says Belly Dancing Life-Coach

Mother Maha Al Musa swears by the power of her breast milk.

Maha Al Musa, 52, is a mother and self-professed "wisdom birth visionary", who still regularly breastfeeds her six-year-old daughter Aminah.

Although Al Musa, from Byron Bay, has received a lot of criticism over the years, she's not at all fazed by being asked to defend her parenting decisions.

In a recent interview with Aussie weekly Woman's Day, says she is proud of the way she has brought up Aminah and hopes that "attitudes will slowly change."

Facebook recently used a photograph of Al Musa to announce that the social platform will now allow breastfeeding advocacy images.

As a labour and birthing coach, who uses the art of bellydancing to help women to feel more empowered by and in control of their bodies, she uses Facebook to promote her work and to explain her philosophy.

In a recent post, she explained: "We are mammals, warm blooded and [we] desire to be connected and a part of a family - let child and mother choose what's best for them in their circumstance."

She goes on to encourage her audience to "support women whatever they choose."

While interviewing Al Musa, Woman's Day were also given permission to speak to her daughter Aminah, who revealed: "It's my favourite thing to do when I'm not at school. More kids should because it's good for you."

In fact, her mum is so convinced of the powers of breast milk that she has decided not to have her daughter immunised.

And she intends to continue to breastfeed Aminah until her daughter makes the decision to self-wean, which Aminah reckons might be in a couple of years time.

Whatever your immediate reaction, the mother-of-two's philosophy is not without its reason or logic.

Maha Al Musa has devoted her life to helping people to feel better in their own skin and to finding new ways to connect people more meaningfully with their children and with their significant others.

There are far more objectional parenting methods out there, we're sure you'll agree.
